This book is the first book I read on my September TBR.
This is the first book in a middle grade series, I'm sure most of you know that. I want to read this series because I feel like I'm the only person in the universe who has not yet read it. SO, I picked it up this month and read it in one sitting. I loved this book! When I went into this book I was expecting kind of childish language and instead was surprised by how the writing was. I liked that Lemony Snicket used the words and language the way he wanted to, and then in the middle of the sentence would just described it. It made the book seem a little creepier that was I thought. I don’t know why, but it just added something to it. I also really loved the description of the writing. Lemony Snicket is a fantastic writer who knows what he wants and makes it work so perfectly. I love him. One of my favorite things in this book was that as an 18 year old I was still getting that feeling that this middle grade book was relatable in a way. Not in the “oh my parents died too and I was stuck with a crazy family member” relatable, but some of the things he said in the book really applied to everyday life. No matter how old you are you can always pull a quote from this book and it relate to you still. I’m so excited to continue on with this series!
